Royal Pop: The Audemars Piguet x Swatch Collaboration Breaks Beyond the Wrist

This eight-piece collection replaces the classic bracelet with a calfskin lanyard, transforming the iconic Royal Oak into a playful pocket watch-inspired design.
Following days of speculation sparked by Swatch’s “Royal Pop” teaser, Audemars Piguet and Swatch have officially unveiled an unexpected collaboration that reimagines the iconic Royal Oak in a completely new way. Rather than creating a traditional wristwatch, the duo introduced the “Royal Pop” collection — a bold lineup of eight Bioceramic models inspired by Pop Art and Swatch’s original 1980s POP collection.
Breaking away from conventional watch design, the collection replaces the standard bracelet with premium calfskin lanyards, allowing the watches to be worn around the neck, attached to bags, or carried like pocket watches. Each model also includes a removable stand, transforming the pieces into playful desk clocks when not being worn.
The collection features eight colorful variations, referencing the Royal Oak’s signature octagonal bezel and eight exposed screws. The lineup is divided into two styles: six Lépine-inspired models with a 12 o’clock crown and two-hand display, alongside two Savonnette-style versions featuring a 3 o’clock crown and small seconds subdial. Designs range from clean monochromatic tones to vibrant multi-color combinations with contrasting stitching and transparent casebacks.
Inside each watch is a hand-wound version of Swatch’s SISTEM51 movement, equipped with a 90-hour power reserve and an anti-magnetic Nivachron™ balance spring co-developed with Audemars Piguet. Visible through the sapphire caseback, the movement also features a patented barrel drum that acts as a visual power reserve indicator, blending playful aesthetics with advanced watchmaking engineering.
By combining Swatch’s experimental spirit with Audemars Piguet’s horological heritage, the “Royal Pop” collection delivers a fresh and unconventional take on luxury watch design.
