The latest Perpetual model draws inspiration from the vintage reference 8171 and introduces Rolex’s new instantaneous annual calendar mechanism.

Rolex has introduced the Perpetual Padellone, a new high-complication timepiece inspired by the brand’s historic reference 8171. The vintage model, which earned the “Padellone” nickname among collectors during its production in the late 1940s and 1950s, serves as the foundation for this modern interpretation. The new watch brings the distinctive character of the original into Rolex’s contemporary Perpetual collection while introducing a sophisticated annual calendar complication.

The watch features a 39mm case with a thickness of 12.20mm and a dual-finished bezel that combines a domed upper section with fluted detailing below. Its dial incorporates a textured central surface and a satin-finished outer ring, with separate day and month displays positioned at 12 o’clock. A central blue-coated hand points toward the date around the outer edge, while a blue enamel moonphase display sits at 6 o’clock and features meteorite representations of the full and new moon.

Powering the Perpetual Padellone is Rolex’s newly developed automatic Calibre 7190. The movement operates at 36,000 vibrations per hour and provides approximately 66 hours of power reserve. It incorporates several of Rolex’s latest technical developments, including the Dynapulse escapement, Syloxi hairspring and ceramic balance staff, with the movement protected by numerous patent applications.

One of the watch’s main highlights is its new Haplos annual calendar system. The mechanism can automatically differentiate between months containing 30 and 31 days, meaning the calendar only requires manual correction once a year when February ends. Even more notably, the day, date and month indications are designed to change simultaneously at midnight within a fraction of a second.

The Perpetual Padellone is offered in several precious-metal configurations, including Everose gold and 950 platinum. The Everose gold versions feature an intense white textured dial, while the platinum model is distinguished by Rolex’s signature ice-blue dial. Strap and bracelet options further differentiate the configurations, with the overall collection carrying Rolex’s updated 2026 Superlative Chronometer certification.
