Nike Brought NYC Subway Culture to the Air Force 1 ’01 “Subway Rat”

Shaggy suede, pizza-inspired graphics and MetroCard details gave the classic silhouette a playful New York-inspired makeover.

Nike brought a playful New York twist to the classic Air Force 1 Low ’01 with its “Subway Rat” colorway. Inspired by the city’s famous subway residents, the sneaker featured a College Grey and Pink Glaze palette with a textured shaggy suede construction across the upper.

The design was packed with NYC-inspired details. Pink accents appeared around the Swoosh, midsole and translucent outsole, while an extended pink heel piece was shaped to resemble a rat’s tail. “NYC” embroidery behind the tongue added another nod to the city.

The theme continued through the smaller details, with the insoles forming a pizza slice graphic when placed together and a yellow hangtag inspired by the classic MetroCard. The pair also came with an additional set of pink laces for a more colorful look.

The Nike Air Force 1 ’01 “Subway Rat” released on October 7, 2026, through Nike and select retailers, with a retail price of $150 USD.
