‘KAWS:HOLIDAY’ arrives in Thailand for its 13th global destination.

KAWS:HOLIDAY made its way to Thailand for its 13th global stop, taking place at the historic Sanam Luang in Bangkok. The large-scale installation featured an 18-meter “COMPANION” seated on the Earth with the Moon in its hand and a smaller “COMPANION” resting on its lap. The artwork, created by artist Brian Donnelly (aka KAWS), represented the passing of knowledge, values, and care across generations, highlighting the deep connections between the past, present, and future. Sanam Luang, historically known as Thung Phra Meru, the Royal Cremation Ground, is a significant cultural site that symbolizes the convergence of celestial forces and earthly realms, making it the perfect backdrop for this immersive art experience.

The installation was more than just an art display; it was an invitation to pause, reflect, and engage with the surroundings. Open daily from May 13 to May 25, KAWS:HOLIDAY THAILAND merged KAWS’s contemporary artistry with the rich cultural heritage of Thailand. This stop followed recent exhibitions in places like Switzerland and Indonesia, continuing KAWS’s mission to create thought-provoking experiences in unconventional settings. The piece was part of a global tour that had left its mark on cities like Tokyo, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Melbourne, as well as remote locations like Changbai Mountain in China.

With Thailand’s dynamic art scene and cultural depth, the installation provided a fresh perspective on the intersection of contemporary art and tradition. Barom “Tay” Bhicharnchitr, Managing Director of Central Embassy, the local partner for the project, emphasized the pride in showcasing world-class art in Thailand. Central Embassy, known for its focus on art, fashion, and lifestyle, collaborated with KAWS, AllRightsReserved, and local supporters to present this immersive exhibition for the first time in the country.
