COMME des GARÇONS HOMME gives the classic 1226 a refined outdoor-inspired makeover.
COMME des GARÇONS HOMME and New Balance continue their long-standing partnership with a fresh interpretation of the archival 1226 runner, bringing one of the brand’s lesser-known performance silhouettes back into the spotlight. Drawing inspiration from the continued demand for early-2000s technical running shoes, the collaboration reimagines the classic model as a rugged lifestyle sneaker that blends heritage design with modern functionality.
Originally unveiled during Paris Fashion Week, the revived 1226 follows New Balance’s successful return of archival runners like the 1906 and 860v2. While staying true to its retro running roots, the updated silhouette features enhanced ABZORB SBS cushioning, delivering improved comfort and shock absorption for everyday wear without compromising its vintage appeal.
Rather than adopting the metallic finishes commonly found on New Balance’s inline releases, COMME des GARÇONS HOMME takes a more refined, material-focused approach. The upper combines breathable open mesh with premium nubuck overlays, highlighted by textured debossed detailing that gives the sneaker a rugged, outdoor-inspired character while maintaining a clean and understated aesthetic.
The collaboration also introduces a fresh earth-tone palette, replacing the monochromatic colour schemes seen in previous releases. Shades of charcoal, brown and khaki work together to reinforce the sneaker’s utility-inspired identity, while subtle COMME des GARÇONS HOMME branding on a custom TPU tongue patch completes the design. The result is a modern reinterpretation of a heritage runner that balances technical performance, premium craftsmanship and everyday versatility.
