Maison Margiela officially launched Line 2 at Frieze Seoul, introducing a new direction that shifted the focus from tangible products like clothing or accessories to “intangible” cultural and artistic collaborations. The initiative was designed to expand the brand’s narrative beyond fashion, positioning it as a key player in the wider cultural and creative landscape. By dedicating the previously unused number 2, the house emphasized the idea of dual collaboration — two minds coming together to create something entirely new.
The debut project, titled Elsewhere, Rhema, Open Torso, was a collaboration between visual artist Heemin Chung and sound artist Joyul. Together, they created an immersive installation that explored themes of memory and transformation through a sensory experience blending visuals and sound.
The installation was showcased at Maison Margiela’s flagship store in Seoul from September 3 to September 28, following its unveiling at Frieze Seoul. With Line 2, Maison Margiela underscored its commitment to building cultural connections, fostering creativity, and redefining what a fashion house can represent in the realm of art and community.
