Honoring the contributions of Black cowboys to the American West.
Nike pays tribute to the legacy of Black cowboys and their contributions to the American West with the SB Dunk Low “BHM,” designed for Black History Month 2025. This special edition sneaker is crafted with a mint green suede upper, which gives it a unique, fresh look. Accentuating the design are bold “Monarch” orange piping and a “Baroque Brown” heel panel, giving it a rugged yet stylish aesthetic. The contrast of a red outsole and black Swoosh adds to its striking appearance, while golden-yellow satin liners bring a touch of elegance to the overall design.
In keeping with the cowboy-inspired theme, the sneaker features several thoughtful details that pay homage to cowboy culture. The thick, rope-like laces mimic the tools traditionally used by cowboys, while the lasso-shaped heel branding further emphasizes this connection. On the heel, Western star embroidery evokes the designs commonly seen on cowboy boots. Inside, the insoles depict a silhouette of a cowboy riding through a sunset-lit desert, a striking visual that ties back to the rich history the shoe honors. This motif is mirrored on a yellow handkerchief, inscribed with the phrase “What’s gonna happen is gonna happen,” symbolizing the resilience and spirit of cowboy culture.
Although Black History Month 2025 has concluded, the Nike SB team is still set to release this thematic pair of sneakers. The “Tourmaline” version of the SB Dunk Low, with its mint green suede upper, special heel embroidery, rope laces, and sockliner art, will be available later this year. The official release date is yet to be confirmed, but the sneakers will likely drop via Nike SNKRS and select skate shops.
