The duo from the 2008 Grammy Awards is sold for a $1.6 million USD loss.
In 2021, Sotheby's auctioned off Kanye West's 2008 "Grammy-Worn" Nike Air Yeezy, which he wore on stage. It was valued at over $1 million USD and became the priciest sneaker ever sold at the auction house. The sample set a record, selling for $1.8 million USD at Sotheby’s. Recently, Goldin Auctions acquired the same pair.
Goldin Auctions put the Nike Air Yeezy 1 samples up for auction in August, starting at $50,000 USD. The auction ended this week, with the sneaker selling for just $180,106 USD — a significant 90% drop from the 2021 Sotheby’s auction. This means there was a notable difference of $1,619,894 USD between the two sales. The size 12 shoe sample was specially made for Kanye and he wore them at the 50th Annual Grammy Music Awards where he won four Grammys and performed “Stronger” on stage.
This specific shoe is mostly black leather with a glow-in-the-dark sole. It also comes in a custom wooden box featuring artwork by industry expert Mark Smith. With this big price drop, it suggests that Kanye's influence might not be as strong as it used to be. Take a closer look at the shoe above.
