A Kobe Bryant-inspired version of the shoe is rumored to reference his 1996 draft day.
Nike has been steadily growing its lineup of Kobe Bryant-themed releases, extending far beyond just bringing back the late legend’s signature sneakers. In recent years, the Swoosh has dropped new Kobe Protro models, apparel collections, and even a Protro version of the Air Force 1 Low inspired by Bryant. Each release continues to honor his legacy while introducing performance-retro designs for a new generation of fans and athletes.
Looking ahead to 2026, reports suggest that Nike is preparing to give the Dunk Low the “Protro” treatment. According to Sneaker Files, the sneaker is expected to debut in a “Fierce Purple/Blue Lagoon” colorway, inspired by Kobe’s 1996 NBA Draft Day when he was initially selected by the Charlotte Hornets before being traded to the Los Angeles Lakers. While official images have yet to surface, speculative mock-ups showcase a vibrant design that pays tribute to that pivotal moment in Bryant’s career.
The “Protro” designation indicates that the shoe will be more than just a retro—it will feature performance upgrades that align with modern standards, making it a true fusion of heritage and innovation. As of now, Nike has not confirmed the release, but the Kobe Bryant-themed Dunk Low Protro is expected to launch in summer 2026. Early reports also suggest it will retail above the Dunk Low’s standard $120 USD price point, marking it as a premium entry in Nike’s Kobe lineup.
