This time, it’s the black-tongued edition, making its return after more than a decade.

As part of Jordan Brand’s 2025 lineup, the Air Jordan 5 “Fire Red” (Black Tongue) is making a highly anticipated return. This marks the first time since 2013 that this version will be re-released, and it’s set to arrive in its most authentic form since its original debut in 1990. Celebrating the sneaker’s 35th anniversary, this retro release is expected to be a must-have for collectors and fans alike.

The “Fire Red” Air Jordan 5 is one of the most recognizable colorways in the Jordan lineup. What sets it apart is the fact that there are two original versions—one with a reflective silver tongue and another with a black tongue. The black-tongued edition, last seen in 2013, is making its return in 2025 with key OG details restored. Unlike its previous retro, which featured a Jumpman logo on the heel, this release brings back the Nike Air branding, making it the most faithful recreation yet.

This iteration maintains all the classic design elements that made it a fan favorite. It features a black tongue with a red Jumpman logo, a white leather upper, and a red-accented midsole with signature shark teeth detailing. Additionally, Jordan’s #23 embroidery is placed near the heel, further cementing its authenticity.

The Air Jordan 5 “Fire Red” (Black Tongue) is set to release on September 13, 2025, via Nike SNKRS and select retailers, with a retail price of $210 USD. With this being the first true-to-original re-release in over three decades, sneaker enthusiasts will not want to miss out. Stay tuned for official images and further updates as the launch date approaches.
