The “University Red” colorway pairs with an “Eggplant” version to commemorate the Year of the Snake.

As Nike Basketball looks ahead to its 2025 plans, the Kobe line is expected to feature more prominently following a significant increase in its size during the company’s last fiscal year. Among the key models returning are the Kobe 5 and Kobe 9 Elite Protro, both of which will be featured in special colorways to celebrate the Year of the Snake. One of the standout releases is the “University Red” colorway of the Kobe 5 Protro, which complements the already revealed purple “Eggplant” version. The “University Red” iteration showcases a bold red upper and midsole, highlighted with gold accents throughout the design. A golden snake wraps around the lateral Swoosh, while additional touches of gold can be seen on the toe and tongue, bringing a striking contrast against the red backdrop.

At this stage, Nike Basketball has yet to officially announce the full release details for the “Year of the Mamba” Kobe 5 Protro colorways, including this particular “University Red” edition. However, updates have shown that official imagery of the shoe is now available, giving fans a closer look at the detailed design. The “University Red” Kobe 5 Protro is expected to launch soon, with official images emphasizing its red and gold theme along with the special packaging that will accompany the pair, including a unique shoe box and carrying bag. As of now, the release is anticipated for mid-January, and the “University Red” colorway is generating excitement ahead of its arrival.
