The Off-White x Nike Air Force 1 Mid Goes Dark Mode
It was reported at the end of October that Virgil Abloh is working with Nike for a new iteration of Air Force 1 Mid and since then a lot of pictures have been leaked. Along the way of the news, confirmation has come that the shoes will be released in spring 2022 in two colorways.
As now we set our eyes on the “White/Clear-White” “Black/Clear-Black” theme, the overall upper is constructed of synthetic material with knit detailing that may come from Flyknit material. Additional set of lacing systems in light grey start from the quarter panel to the almost top of the eyelet.
A lockdown strap in grey ripstop fabrics sit along the ankle strap for a techwear vibe and the material continues to the back inner side as part of the shoe’s deconstructed aesthetic. Off-White signature Helvetica text has been moved to the inner medial side, while on top of it a clear white Nike Swoosh slide across the sidewall.
Bold changes can be seen at the midsole with a wavy layout starting from the mid across to the back with new support structure at the heel. Plus with a visibility window for the bubble unit that is usually enclosed which aligns with Virgil Abloh direction of bringing the hidden to the forefront.
Throughout the outsoles is detail with soft rubber spike tread and more emphasis is put on the toe spring and arch area in a mix color of rich blue, pink, and green. This composition of material and look will further give rise to questions about Abloh’s design process.
