The 1890 blends elements of a Wallabee with the design of a running shoe.
New Balance is continuing its experimental streak with the reveal of a new hybrid silhouette: the 1890. Following the debut of the 1906L sneaker loafer last year, the 1890 was recently spotted on the feet of Lee Stuart, a senior marketing manager at New Balance, offering an early preview of the upcoming model. This fresh design blends elements of the classic Clarks Wallabee with performance running footwear, resulting in a unique silhouette that stands out in both lifestyle and sport-inspired settings.
The upper features a soft yellow leather base with a distinctive “U”-shaped vamp, evoking the moccasin construction of the Wallabee. Textured snakeskin overlays add a bold edge, while the black sole unit — backed by ABZORB cushioning — enhances comfort and function. Branding is kept minimal, with a small “N” logo placed beneath the laces, “ABZORB” etched near the heel, and “1890” discreetly noted on the white sockliner. Although New Balance has yet to confirm a release date, the 1890 is expected to hit select retailers sometime within the next year.
