Blending 890v3 overlays with a 2002R sole, JFG’s 12th New Balance release brought high-saturation, Hype Williams–inspired energy to footwear.

Joe Freshgoods’ ongoing partnership with New Balance produced its 12th installment with the launch of the hybrid New Balance 1890.

The collaboration paid tribute to the bold, cinematic energy of the mid-to-late ’90s, drawing inspiration from vibrant rap and R&B music videos defined by saturated colors, fisheye visuals, and the influence of directors like Hype Williams. This nostalgic theme was expressed through two standout colorways: the fiery orange “Finger Waves” and the electric purple “Naughty Things,” the latter referencing iconic visuals from Janet Jackson and Busta Rhymes.

To support this concept, the 1890 combined archival design cues with modern construction, featuring a blotchy mesh base with wavy overlays inspired by the 890v3, alongside patent leather and reflective accents. The upper sat atop a 2002 ABZORB-cushioned sole, delivering stability and comfort while maintaining its bold, experimental aesthetic.
