This edition features the black-tongued version, making its first return in nearly 15 years.

The Air Jordan 5 “Fire Red” with a black tongue is set to return this year, marking its first re-release in nearly 15 years. Originally launched in 1990, this version of the “Fire Red” stands out from its reflective-tongued counterpart with a bold black tongue, red Jumpman branding, and a more red-heavy midsole design. It was last released in 2013 but featured a Jumpman logo on the heel instead of the original Nike Air branding, making this 2025 edition the most faithful recreation of the OG pair to date.

Staying true to its heritage, the sneaker sports the signature white leather upper with striking red and black accents throughout. The black tongue creates a sharp contrast against the upper, while the #23 embroidery on the lateral heel further nods to Michael Jordan’s legacy. One of the biggest changes from the 2013 version is the return of the black Nike Air branding on the heel, a detail that fans of the original release will appreciate. These elements combine to make this drop one of the most exciting Air Jordan 5 releases in recent years.

As part of Jordan Brand’s 35th-anniversary lineup for the Air Jordan 5, the “Fire Red” will be joining other classic re-releases such as the “Grape” and “Black Metallic Reimagined.” The highly anticipated sneaker is expected to launch on September 13 via Nike SNKRS and select retailers. With its rich history and true-to-original detailing, this release is sure to be a must-have for collectors and longtime Jordan fans alike. Stay tuned for official images and further updates as the launch date approaches.
