The renowned American graffiti artist is set to revisit the beloved silhouette in the upcoming year.
Futura, also known as Futura 2000, stands out as one of the most prolific collaborators in the sneaker world. Since the early 2000s, the American graffiti artist has crafted sought-after sneakers, with creations like the Nike Dunk High Pro SB “FLOM” fetching substantial amounts on the secondhand market. His recent collaboration with Nike, alongside Virgil Abloh in the Futura Laboratories line, featured two Dunk Low colorways that didn't see a traditional retail release. Instead, eight pairs were auctioned this year, with a size 10 in the orange variant reaching an impressive $107,950 USD.
Confirmation has now surfaced that Futura is set to release a Nike SB Dunk Low in 2024. An image of the design quietly emerged in September, shared by Singaporean contemporary artist Jahan Loh. The anticipation has grown, and sneaker enthusiasts eagerly await its release, with popular leaker Masterchefian reposting the photo and Futura acknowledging its existence in recent comments. Notably, Futura described it as a "GENERAL RELEASE," though obtaining a pair is expected to be challenging. Additionally, he indicated a release year of "2024" in Roman numerals.
The shoe itself appears to feature a combination of mesh and canvas in its upper, retaining classic SB Dunk Low elements such as the thick tongue. The gray mesh base is complemented by dark teal leather Swooshes, and the overlays showcase a galaxy-esque print in various shades of blue, green, and red. Futura's signature is positioned at the lateral heel of one shoe, matching the tongue tag, while the other heel displays the “FL” stamp. The sole unit includes a white midsole with blue contrast stitching above an icy translucent outsole.
