The renowned American graffiti artist is set to make a comeback to the iconic silhouette later this year.
Futura is kicking off the year with a bang. The beloved artist has already collaborated with Supreme, Salehe Bembury, and Crocs. However, one major project is still under wraps — his latest rendition of the Nike SB Dunk Low. While we anticipate its rumored release this summer, detailed images of the sneaker have surfaced.
One of the exciting reveals from last year was a glimpse of Futura's upcoming Nike SB Dunk Low. Featuring abstract galaxy-like overlays, an early sample has now been showcased, displaying the pattern covering all overlays of the shoe. A "FL" (Futura Laboratories) insignia appears on the medial heel, while the gray "NIKE" heel tab is reflective.
Futura, also known as Futura 2000, is renowned for his prolific collaborations in the sneaker world. Since the early 2000s, the American graffiti artist has produced sought-after sneakers, such as the Nike Dunk High Pro SB "FLOM," which have fetched high prices on the resale market. His recent collaboration with Nike through the Futura Laboratories line, alongside Virgil Abloh, resulted in two Dunk Low colorways. Although they never received a proper release, eight pairs were auctioned this year, with one fetching a staggering $107,950 USD for a size 10 in the orange colorway.
It has now been confirmed that Futura has designed a Nike SB Dunk Low for 2024. The design quietly surfaced last September via Singaporean contemporary artist Jahan Loh and has since gained attention as sneaker enthusiasts eagerly await its release. Futura himself validated its existence, indicating it as a "GENERAL RELEASE," although acquiring a pair may not be easy. He also mentioned "2024" in Roman numerals, suggesting a release planned for next year.
The shoe appears to combine mesh and canvas in its upper, with classic SB Dunk Low features like the thick tongue making a return. The base is gray mesh, with leather Swooshes in dark teal and galaxy-like overlays in various shades of blue, green, and red. Futura's signature adorns the lateral heel of one shoe, matching the tongue tag, while the "FL" stamp is depicted at the heel of the other. The sole unit features a white midsole with blue contrast stitching atop an icy translucent outsole.
